Steve, a native Kansas Citian, is an experienced civil trial attorney who specializes in products liability, construction litigation, trucking accidents, nursing home liability, governmental entity liability and general personal injury. Steve has participated in over 50 jury trials in state and federal courts and resolved over 100 cases through mediation, arbitration and summary jury trial.Steve is very involved in local and national legal organizations. Currently Steve serves on the Board of Directors of the national defense organization, DRI (The Defense Research Institute). In the past, he has served as Chair of DRI's Products Liability Committee (2006-2007), the Vice Chair of the Products Liability Committee (2003-2005) and as Co-Chair of the Products Liability Specialized Litigation Group on Consumer Goods (1994-2003). He is a member of DRI's Diversity Issues Committee and served as Chairman of DRI's 2002 Annual Meeting. He also is actively involved in the Trucking Law Committee and Fire and Property Specialized Litigation Group. Locally, Steve was one of the founding members and a past President of the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Bar Association. Steve is currently on the Board of Directors for the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers (MODL), and he is a past Chair of the Missouri Bar Association Client Security Fund Committee. In addition to serving in leadership positions of these legal organizations, Steve has spoken at various seminars and has authored countless articles in legal publications. He is licensed to practice in Missouri (1989) and Kansas (1990); and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri (1989); U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit (1996); U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas (1990); the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit (1991); and the United States Supreme Court (2003). Steve has completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, receiving a B.A. Degree (with honors) in 1980. Between 1980 and 1987 Steve worked for The Kansas City Star/Times where he gained experience in managing people and deadlines. Steve earned his J.D. Degree at the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1989. |
