Chris Heigele

Chris joined Sherman Taff Bangert Thomas & Coronado, P.C. as a trial attorney in July 2003 and was elected shareholder in 2009. His practice is principally focused on representing and defending clients in general personal injury litigation, product liability claims, governmental liability claims, and insurance law.

Chris began his trial practice over 13 years ago, when he joined a small plaintiff's personal injury firm. He then moved to the defense side where he has continued to litigate cases in the state and federal courts of Missouri and Kansas. Chris has also briefed and successfully argued numerous appeals in the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Western District of Missouri and the Kansas Supreme Court.

Chris has written articles and spoken at continuing legal education seminars for Defense Research Institute, the Missouri Bar, and the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers. His topics have included the duty to warn in Missouri product liability situations, ethics, success with using summary judgment motions and changes in Missouri law concerning the standards for expert testimony. Chris is also a graduate of the International Association of Defense Counsel's and Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers' Trial Academies.

Chris graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia with his Bachelor of Arts Degree, Summa Cum Laude, in Political Science and Philosophy in 1993. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1996, where he served as technical editor of the UMKC Law Review and was a member of the Urban Lawyer journal. Chris is licensed to practice in Missouri (1996) and Kansas (1997) and is a member of the bars of the Eighth and Tenth Circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Courts of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri.

Chris is a member of Defense Research Institute, Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers, Kansas Association of Defense Counsel, the Johnson County Bar Association, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.

Chris lives in Olathe, Kansas, with wife Kim, and children, Ben and Claire.
